I taught Eve Sedgwick’s Between Men in one of my undergraduate classes today. I spent 10 minutes explaining the basic argument and unpacking the idea that homosocial desire structures all relationships between men, even non-sexual ones. When I finished, there were 20 seconds of tense, nervous silence, and then one of the jocks looked up and said… “Woah.”
